When the Trail Creek Church of Christ first started to meet in February 2007, it didn't have a building.

"We started meeting in a firehouse up in Lenexa," preacher Daniel Coe said.

In order to save money and get a more permanent location, the group of about 12 started to meet in the Ken Greer's home in De Soto.

"We met in my house for almost a year," Greer said.

Coe, who has been a preacher for about 40 years, said he was asked to come to De Soto to help start the church. He previously was working mission work in New Mexico, where he was building a congregation.

While Coe, who now lives in Lawrence, has spent several years traveling across the country preaching and doing mission work, he said this was his last move.

"I'm done moving," he said. "I'm too old for this now. I plan to stay here until the Lord comes or I die."

Trail Creek Church of Christ moved into its more permanent location earlier this year at 32565 Lexington Ave. Bible classes are at 10 a.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Wednesday. Worship is at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Coe said the church uses only the Bible for authority on doctrine and practice and therefore doesn't belong to a particular denomination with a unifying head.

"I tell the congregation 'Don't you ever believe a word I tell you, because I can be wrong but the book is right,'" Coe said. "We teach the book, chapter and verse in context."

Trail Creek Church of Christ also believes in complete submersion baptism on consenting individuals for the forgiveness of sins, and weekly observance of communion.

To spread awareness about the church's new location in De Soto, members of the congregation plan on going door to door distributing information about the church's beliefs and the worship times.

The congregation also started a Web site, www.trailcreekcoc.us, to inform people about its beliefs. Coe said the members are working to put video of his sermons on the site.
