Council made right choice with park bid
January 10, 2008
Last month, the De Soto City Council did the right thing when it chose a local business to do the first work on the new city park in the West Bottoms on the Kansas River even though the bid was higher than one from out of town.
The De Soto Chamber of Commerce has been preaching the past 10 years "Chose De Soto first." Just because the price is higher doesn't mean you don't buy here.
I can buy hamburger in Olathe cheaper than at Steve's Meat Market, but I won't go there to it. This is my town.
I compliment the council for looking past the price. I was at the meeting and saw they struggled with the decision. But they chose correctly.
The river front park will be the best looking park since Miller Park was built in the 1960s. Parks are one of our greatest city assets and the new park will be no exception.
