In a move that left open the possibility of building a pool at De Soto High School, the De Soto USD 232 Board of Education offered to negotiate a lease agreement with the city of De Soto.
¢ Second Threads Plus opened in the J-Mart shopping plaza just before Christmas. The business sold used clothing.
¢ The De Soto USD 232 Board of Education gave its attorney the green light to secure 90 acres of land that would serve as the campus of a future middle school and high school.
The property, owned by Maurice and Paul Vanlerberg was at 87th Street and Mize Road.

Ten candidates filed for seats on the USD 232 Board of Education. The candidates for the no. 1 position were Earl Barenklau, Carroll Newport and Gerald Mansell . Aubrey Rawlings and Burke Bettis ran for position no. 2, while Roger Simmons and James Webb ran for position no. 3. Merle Couch, Monte Bowers and Max Atwell ran for position no. 7.
¢ The De Soto Wildcats wrestling team took third in the Pioneer League wrestling tournament in Paola.

Sleet and snow made roads hazardous, causing school to be cancelled for a day.
¢ Mrs. Tony Dinkle had eye surgery at Shawnee Mission Hospital and was home recovering.
¢ Father and son Orville and Merle Ballard opened the former Ted's Sundries store under the name of Ballard's Sundries.
¢ Deanna Stephens, daughter of Don and Dott Stephens, suffered a broken ankle while in P.E. class at school. She was taken to Olathe Community Hospital for treatment and returned home after staying in the hospital for a few days.
