The scores weren’t pretty — De Soto lost duals Jan. 31 to Eudora 57-12, and to Anderson County 64-18. Still, Wildcat coach Shannon Sawner said in the wins De Soto was able to collect and in his team’s performances in losses, he saw progress.

Mill Valley staff provided board great service

The staff at Mill Valley High School presented the De Soto USD 232 Board of Education a plan that will provide room at the school for the extra student population expected to be enrolled next school year. The plan, if approved, will allow the district to forego placing students in Monticello Trails Middle School, which would in turn force another round of boundary changes on the east side as the district scrambled to find room for displaced middle school students.

There will be a free public birding event Feb. 15 at the Ernie Miller Nature Center. The event will be the first time the local nature center is participating in the nationwide birding event, which is now in its 11th year, and organizers anticipate it will become a annual observation.
