The De Soto United Methodist Church will have Parents' Night Out Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. They are having the youth volunteer to have children ages 2 and older sleep at the church. They can do games, crafts and have snacks. There is no charge for this but a donation is acceptable as it will be put toward the youth mission trip.

¢ I was locked out of my home Friday. Leona Robinson brought me home from F.C.E. and my garage door opener wouldn't work. We went up to the fire station and three men volunteered to come and see if they could help me. They finally had to cut the screen and open the garage door manually to get me in. Thanks goes to all the firefighters. I did appreciate it all.

¢ The Junior Joy Singers were in the choir loft today at De Soto Baptist Church and did a special "Lord I want to be a Christian." Tami Reeves was their director.

¢ Karen Wall said the De Soto Baptist Church's Vacation Bible School will be from 9 to 11:45 a.m. June 2-6. We do need volunteers to sign up to teach and also furnish and help with refreshments. There will be a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.

¢ The birthday party April 13 at the De Soto Baptist Church was successful. We had a collection of just more than $300, which will go to the special project fund.

¢ We had brown bag Sunday this week. We leave the sanctuary following worship and we drop into this special bag a donation that goes to the De Soto Multi-Service Center for utility and medical needs.

¢ The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary was in charge of doing the Hillside Village Nursing Center birthday party April 18. Sue Allen and Rosemary McAninch served residents punch and cookies.

¢ The Pleasant Hour Club met April 17 at the De Soto United Methodist Church's fellowship hall with Judy Sisco as hostess. She was assisted by Delores Weller. Their meeting program was a show and tell. The members brought something of long ago and told of its history. They had only 10 members attend due to sickness and hospital stays. The May meeting will be a trip meeting with Delores Weller and Doris Coleman as the Hostesses and they will decide on the place later.

¢ Those celebrating birthdays this week include Brian Payne, Sally Beck, Betty Hughey, Chris Hayden, Gretchyn Reeves, Kristina Couch, Lacena Schupp, my great-granddaughter in Illinois, Mary Patricia Nalley and my great-daughter in Oklahoma Hanna Rose Frohling.

¢ The De Soto Multi-Service Center needs canned fruit this week. Next week the need will be canned tuna.

¢ The National Day of Prayer is on May 1. The De Soto Baptist Church is asking everyone to remember and play for the military personnel. Jerry Nalley, who served in the Navy, gave the offertory prayer Sunday.

¢ Those on the sick list are many this week. Bobby Gulley had four stints put in for his heart at St. Luke's Hospital this week and has more to do later on the other side. Reta Jenks will have surgery Tuesday with two different surgeons operating at the same time. Billy Boyd also is having her surgery Tuesday. Frances Lawhead came home Saturday from Olathe Medical Center were she stayed more than a week with pneumonia. Elfreeda Payton is still in Texas in the hospital. Freeda Anderson's son was in the hospital and is home now. The daughter of R.B. and Martha Jones is reported to be in critical condition. Devin Haynes, 7, is at home recovering after a tonsillectomy Friday. He is the son of Chris and Allison Haynes. Many others had unspoken prayers needed.

¢ Sympathy goes to the family of Kathy Canons in the loss of her 21-year-old son Bob.

¢ The Heat baseball team was busy this weekend. The manager Eric Schupp coaches well as the team won first place at the Mid-America Sports Complex. They said each player hit the ball well. The Heat played the Gary Roles Cobras from Olathe and won 9-0. Then the team played the Shawnee Red Mustangs and beat them 7-6. L.J. made a homerun. Next the team played the Springhill Broncos and beat them 9-0.

¢ My son Edwinand his family called me Sunday and shared their news with me. He said their church's men had a breakfast meeting and their congressman spoke at it. He also said that Jerry sent him a picture of Kansas University's parade for the basketball team. They said their granddaughter Lisa hadn't been over this weekend.

¢ My son Michael from Oklahoma called me Sunday to check on my health. I told him I would have to get my left ear piece replaced.
