Tin Roof Blowdown
By James Lee Burke
Mystery (2007)
This may be the best Burke mystery to date.
Detective Dave Robicheaux lives just outside New Orleans during hurricanes Katrina and Rita and their aftermath. The gruesome reality of what it was like to live through these disastrous hurricanes is vivid in the author's words. New Orleans reduced to the level of a medieval society, where there is no law, order or sanctuary for the weak and helpless is ripe for corruption and suffering.
Robicheaux must find two serial rapists, a morphine-addicted priest, and a vigilante who is probably more dangerous than the city's criminals.
