- In one of its most impressive performances to date, De Soto’s wrestling team placed eight wrestlers in the top six spots of their respective weight classes Jan. 10 at the Burlington Wrestling Invitational. The result was a second-place team finish with 159 points.

- In what has became a familiar number, De Soto recorded 49 new housing starts last year.
It was the third time in the past five years De Soto issued that number of single-family home permits. Numbers didn’t differ much the two other years (41 in 2000 and 44 in 2001), offering further evidence that residential development has hit a plateau in the city.

- The De Soto City Council has appointed a committee headed by City Engineer Mike Brungardt to review firms qualified to perform a sewer master plan for the city. The master plan is the first step in expanding the city’s sewer capacity.

- The De Soto Parks and Recreation Board approved language for a $2.65 million bond referendum this April that would determine the fate of a new pool. The De Soto City Council will now consider the language.
