- Local teens will be leaving Wildcat country for the land of cotton Tuesday when 76 De Soto High School musicians and performers head to Dallas. The band and flag team members are set to perform at the halftime show of the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 2. The group is in the process of making final preparation to make the trip a smooth one.
“This is a neat opportunity for the kids,” said band director Justin Love. “We’re taking quite a large group down. Principle Debbie Lynn, a nurse, a number of chaperones and about 50 or so family members will also be there to watch.”

- The De Soto City Council unanimously voted to deny two rezoning requests that would have allowed 181 single-family homes and 58 two-unit townhomes to be platted on a 90-acre site southeast of Kill Creek Road and 83rd Street.

- In his eighth match at this weekend’s Johnson County Wrestling Classic, Leif Goleman found himself in a rematch against Olathe East’s Taylor Bauer, whom he had pinned earlier in the day.
The second match didn’t turn out as well as the first one, however, as Bauer avenged his lone loss of Saturday with a pin of his own near the end of the second period.
