- The De Soto Board of Education Monday approved 4-1 to publish the 2008-09 proposed budget that includes about $16 million more in expenditures than last year’s budget. Board member Bill Fletcher dissented; board members Randy Johnson and Jim Thomas were absent from the meeting. The board will have a budget hearing at its next meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 4.

- All high schoolers planning on playing football during the 2008 season are expected to attend the De Soto Wildcat Football Camp July 28 to August 1. The basic fundamentals of the football program will be taught, and the coaching staff will install the entire offensive, defensive and special teams packages. The camp will focus on preparation for the season.

- The Lexington Trails Middle School 2008 Football Camp will be held from July 28 to July 31. Anyone planning to play during the 2008 season is expected to attend. The camp is open to all football players entering the seventh or eighth grade in August. The basic fundamentals of football, teamwork and fun will be the focus.
